Finding Significant Patterns Characterizing Types of Alternative Splicing
نویسندگان
چکیده
Alternative pre-mRNA splicing events can be classified into various types, including cassette, mutually exclusive, alternative 3’ splice site, alternative 5’ splice site, retained intron [3]. The detection of regulatory sequence elements closely related to such a particular type of alternative splicing events is an important and challenging problem in understanding the mechanism of alternative splicing. However, it seems that it has not been given enough extensive computational analysis of examining whether there are candidate regulatory sequence elements characterizing types of alternative splicing events. In this work, we consider the problem of finding significant patterns specific to the types of alternative 5’ splice site, alternative 3’ splice site, and cassette, respectively, from their alternative exons and flanking introns.

Role of Aberrant Alternative Splicing in Cancer
Alternative splicing can alter genome sequence and as a consequence, many genes change to oncogenes. This event can also affect protein function and diversity. The growing number of study elucidate the pathological influence of impaired alternative splicing events on numerous disease including cancer. Here, we would like to highlight the significant role of alternative splicing in cancer biolog...

متن کاملColony Forming Unit Endothelial Cells Do not Exhibit Telomerase Alternative Splicing Variants and Activity
Introduction: Endothelial progenitor colony forming unit-endothelial cells (CFU-EC) were first believed to be the progenitors of endothelial cells, named endothelial progenitor cells. Further studies revealed that they are monocytes regulating vasculogenesis. The main hindrance of these cells for therapeutic purposes is their low frequency and limited replicative potentials. This study was unde...
متن کاملAnalysis of pollen-specific alternative splicing in Arabidopsis thaliana via semi-quantitative PCR
Alternative splicing enables a single gene to produce multiple mRNA isoforms by varying splice site selection. In animals, alternative splicing of mRNA isoforms between cell types is widespread and supports cellular differentiation. In plants, at least 20% of multi-exon genes are alternatively spliced, but the extent and significance of tissue-specific splicing is less well understood, partly b...
متن کاملLarge-scale analysis of genome and transcriptome alterations in multiple tumors unveils novel cancer-relevant splicing networks.
Alternative splicing is regulated by multiple RNA-binding proteins and influences the expression of most eukaryotic genes. However, the role of this process in human disease, and particularly in cancer, is only starting to be unveiled. We systematically analyzed mutation, copy number, and gene expression patterns of 1348 RNA-binding protein (RBP) genes in 11 solid tumor types, together with alt...
